Questions

The questions people actually ask me

These are the real ones — the things people ask on the phone before they book, and the things they are usually too polite to ask at all.

I am not in shape. Is that a problem?

No, and this is the single most common reason people put off starting. Training is scaled to the body you have today. You will work, but you will not be pushed past what is safe for you, and nothing I teach depends on being fit, fast, or strong. The techniques that require athleticism are exactly the ones that fail under stress anyway.

Do I need any experience?

None. Most of the people I train have never done anything like this. That is genuinely easier to work with than someone arriving with habits from a competition sport that do not transfer.

What is Krav Maga, and is that all you teach?

Krav Maga is the system developed for the Israeli Defense Forces and still used by them today. It is the foundation of what I teach because it is built around simple things that hold up under real stress, with no forms, belts, or tournaments. But it is the floor, not the ceiling. What you get from me also draws on firearms work, weapons defense, medical response, and years of teaching people whose lives depended on it. I teach whatever actually solves your problem.

Is this a competition sport? Will I have to fight anyone?

No. There is no sparring you have not agreed to, no competition, no belt testing, and nothing to prove to anyone. This is self-defense. The goal is that you go home, not that you win.

What do I wear, and do I need equipment?

Wear what you would normally wear out — including your actual shoes. That is deliberate. You will not be attacked in a uniform and bare feet, so training in them builds a false sense of what you can do. You need no equipment. I bring anything required.

How young can my child start?

Five. For the youngest kids it looks like games — voice, distance, noticing things, getting to a grown-up, and breaking free from a grip. It is not frightening and it does not teach a small child that the world is dangerous. It grows into the real material as they get older.

Can I stay and watch my child's session?

Always, and I would rather you did. Nothing I teach a child is anything I would not want a parent to see. Kids also retain far more when a parent is in the room — and more still when the parent is training too.

Something happened to me. Will training make it worse?

It can, if it is done carelessly, and I want to be honest with you about that rather than reassuring. Self-defense training done badly can put someone straight back into the worst moment of their life. Done well, it can be one of the places you start getting yourself back. You keep control of the room, nobody touches you without you saying so first, and you can stop at any point without explaining yourself. We can spend a whole first session just talking if that is what the day needs.

Where do sessions take place?

Your home, a park, a partner gym, or your school, church, or workplace. Krav-based training needs almost no infrastructure — no mats, no uniforms, no special equipment — which means it can come to you. I am based in Spicewood and travel throughout Lake Travis, Bee Cave, Lakeway, Dripping Springs, Marble Falls, and greater Austin.

Do you offer group classes, or only private?

Both. Private one-on-one, small groups you bring yourself, and public seminars at partner facilities. A lot of people start with a small group of friends because it is far less intimidating than walking into a room of strangers, and that is a perfectly good reason to do it that way.

Can you train our church, school, or company?

Yes, and it is a significant part of my work. Active threat awareness and response training, physical security assessments, safety team development, and de-escalation for front-desk and greeting roles. It is designed not to frighten your people — fear is a poor teacher and it outlasts the session.

Do you teach firearms? Do you issue a License to Carry?

I teach defensive firearms from complete beginner through experienced carrier, at partner ranges. I am not a licensing body — if you need a Texas LTC certificate, I will happily point you to a good LTC instructor. What I teach is the training that should happen before and after that class.

Do I have to be a Christian to train with you?

No, and it will never be a condition of anything. My faith is central to why I do this and I am not going to hide it on my own website, but I have taught people of every faith and of none and they all got the same instruction and the same respect. If you need help, that is the only qualification that has ever mattered.

What does it cost?

It depends on the format, the group size, and where we train, so I would rather quote you honestly than post a number that turns out to be wrong for your situation. Reach out and I will give you a straight answer with no obligation attached.

Still have a question?

Ask it directly. I answer every message personally, and there is no obligation attached to any of it.
